Details:

JAPANESE KATANA SAMURAI SWORD 19TH C.

A Japanese katana. Having a tsuka comprised of shagreen with a standard silk tsukamaki wrapping executed in a lozenge pattern, adorned with a scepter form menuki, a mixed metal fuchi with a dragonfly and clouds, and an iron tsuba with a cloud motif. The scabbard is brown lacquer adorned with black cherry blossoms and has an openwork metal tip. Measuring approximately 44.5" long in the scabbard, and 32.5" from the beneath the tsuba to the tip.


Condition:
Good condition; some losses to lacquer scabbard, verdigris on metal mounts. JMD There are three areas of tearing to the woven fabric on the tsuka.
